Welcome!
Mother's Day is coming. Need a really special gift for Mom to encourage her and reward her? Ashley, my daughter and a new Mom herself, put together a fantastic package sure to be appreciated. Start here for Mother's Day.

While you're there -- check out Ashley's little Clara reading No More Mondays. Send us a picture of you reading No More Mondays and we'll bump Clara. I'll ignore her disappointment.

I continue doing lots of interviews about the principles from No More Mondays. Here’s a recent interview with The American Management Association titled Dan Miller on Saying Goodbye to the Monday Morning Blues. Also, on April 28th I was a guest on CBN’s Living the Life where we talked about the opportunities for seeing work in new ways.

On Wednesday, May 7th, I will be speaking at Discovery Church in Orlando, FL. They have a wonderful program called Discovery@Work and I’m delighted to make a stop there. If you live in the Orlando area join Joanne and me for this great evening: Discovery@Work

Be sure to check out the quotations on music at the end of each item today.

Need resources to help you find your music?

1. Connect your Heart to your Head
Last week in the intro to the 48 Days newsletter I wrote about making money – and that there are a few non-negotiable components of how I set the stage to work each day. Those included my ergonomic chair, a weekly massage and “In the background I have music playing -specifically setting the stage for productive “'knowledge work.'”

Well that prompted questions about the music I listen to. Here’s probably more than you cared to know – but maybe it will stimulate a useful practice for yourself.

Most of the time when I’m thinking, planning and writing I have “Classic FM” on iTunes radio playing in the background. It’s just great classical music — fairly light and inspirational – and free.

Sometimes when I’m just doing routine office work I’ll switch to “Beatles-A-Rama” — all Beatles music or the all-Elvis station.

In my car with the top down, screaming down the road, I listen to U2 and Alicia Keys.

And then I sing with The Nashville Choir. Most of our singing is based on church music. Recently, on a Sunday night we did a community hymn sing at the beautiful new symphony hall here in Nashville with Bill Gaither, Melinda Doolittle and Amy Grant.

I believe music releases a creativity that stays blocked otherwise. And not just listening – but singing. Yes, I believe everyone ought to sing! Diane Austin, adjunct associate professor of music at New York University, says “The voice is like a bridge from your heart to your head. Singing freely releases what’s locked up in your body.” A pilot study published in the British Journal of Nursing found that singing greatly reduces the anxiety and depression patients can experience following a major surgery. Another two-year study of elderly people with dementia found that singing slowed the natural rise in blood pressure associated with aging.

So if you want to lower your blood pressure and unlock your creativity – try singing. Release the music in you and you may release the other areas of success that are waiting to be set free – physically, relationally, spiritually, in your work, and financially.

" Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” -- Red Auerbach

2. Interview in the Morning
Research shows that 83% of executives are more likely to hire AM job seekers. And 70% of all hiring decisions are made before 11:00 AM. So obviously, if you can help suggest the time of an interview, make it before 11:00 AM.

Avoid Mondays and Fridays. On Monday, people tend to have too much to do and on Friday they are anticipating the weekend and ready to get out of the office. So the very best times for interviews are Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings between 8-10:00 AM. The little things can tip the scale in your favor.

Music is well said to be the speech of angels; in fact, nothing among the utterances allowed to man is felt to be so divine. It brings us near to the infinite. -- Thomas Carlyle

3. 48 Days Online Radio
Each week I create a new online radio podcast — that you can hear on Dan’s Online Radio Show.

Here are some of the questions addressed in the current podcast:

1. Dear Dan, I'm only seventeen but aspiring to be a writer so I was wondering if you can give me any help with publishing.

2. Dear Dan, I have a wonderful idea and its really starting off big. I am 100% sold on this idea and can visualize it. One voice is saying "I'm not organized enough" "I'm not; I'm not, etc. and the other voice saying "I don't have to be perfect - I can do it!" - but what does God want me to do?

3. How do I get straight answers as to why I'm not even getting interviews on jobs that I qualify for?

4. Hi Dan, I am a Massage Therapist and have been professionally active for about 6 years now. I want to open my own studio. Do you think I can do it with a $15,000 loan?

5. Dear Dan, I am a 47 year old male. I have a passion for motorcycles and it is something I have had since I was 7 years old but I never thought I could make a living at it. I sometimes drive up in the local dealer's parking lot but I can’t get up the nerve to go inside and ask for a job because I worry about the economy and that it might not pay well enough to keep my 2 daughters in college and after all, motorcycles are just toys for most people. I also tell myself that a hobby is one thing and a job is another. I am reading your 48 days book and just like the guy in "Chariots of Fire" I feel God's pleasure when I ride a motorcycle. Can I trust my feelings?

6. Currently I'm a 21 year old professional writing major/lawnman/ and musician. While there always seems to be lack of money in the music industry should I pursue this dream anyway? What's the best way to keep your day job while also pursuing your dream?

Your questions continue to inspire and motivate me. There really are at least good solutions for most any situation – even if it’s not a perfect solution, you can move through where you are to a better future – if you create a plan of action. Few people are really trapped or stuck.

If you have a question, just click on this 48 Days Online Radio link and you can ask about starting your own business, getting a better job, or finding your purpose in life.

4. Humor -- Job Language
A man had fallen between the rails in a subway station. People were all crowding around trying to get him out before the train ran him over. They were all shouting, "Give me your hand!" But the man would not reach up.

Joe elbowed his way through the crowd and leaned over the man. "Friend," he asked, "What is your profession?"
"I am an IRS agent," gasped the man. "In that case," said Joe, "Take my hand!"

The IRS agent immediately grasped Joe's hand and was hauled to safety. Joe turned to the amazed by-standers and declared, "Never ask an IRS agent to "give" you anything, you fools!"
