A Minute with Dan
Hundreds of you responded yesterday to my request for “Over 50 – Career Re-invention” stories. I am sorting through those now to make recommendations to the Good Morning America team. Thanks so much for your prompt and incredibly interesting responses.

These kinds of requests are coming in as a response to the message of No More Mondays. If you are looking for a Graduation or Father’s Day gift – we have some gorgeous combinations here that include No More Mondays – for only $20.

1. The Barefoot Executive
In 1998 Carrie Wilkerson was a high school English/journalism teacher. She loved teaching – but then she adopted two sibling toddlers (24 and 8 months old) and “my priorities changed overnight.” These two little babies had already experienced neglect and abandonment. Carrie decided she couldn’t just drop them off day after day, so she quit her job to care for these children. And she says she was a great stay-at-home Mom -- for about 7 weeks. She quickly realized she also missed the productivity at work – and the money!

Today Carrie is still at home, but has tapped into the new work models; and has “created” her new work of helping other Moms experience the joy of working at home. With the success of The Barefoot Executive her husband quit his job and joined her at home five years ago. While always struggling with debt while employed in corporate jobs, they have eliminated $100,000 in debt and today are debt-free except for their real estate holdings, Carrie lost 110 lbs, they have 4 completely funded college accounts for their children, travel extensively, help their parents, and give freely to the faith-based organizations of their choosing.

Carrie explains: “My main “why” is this. I want to be a world changer. Who am I to think I can be a world changer?--- this little girl from Texas. This little girl from Texas believes that in mentoring and inspiring women to come back home, to be influential in their families and their churches and their schools and their communities. We can influence the home, we can change the world.”

Would you like to explore the possibilities of becoming your own “barefoot executive?” I want you to connect with Carrie Wilkerson. Start by watching this engaging 3-min video titled TheBossMovie where you’ll get a feel for what it’s like to be your own boss – at home. You'll also get Carrie’s free newsletter and her list of 7 Things Your Boss Doesn’t Want You To Know.

2. Cure for the Common Cubicle
So many of you are contacting us with the ideas you are developing into your own businesses. I am amazed as I hear about reading aloud to create audio books, inventing a “massage thumb,” baking pies to the tune of $1.2 million annually, selling cars on eBay, helping ladies connect around quilting, and driving the Amish for a per mile charge.

I know nearly everyone has an idea that could be turned into a real business – with real income. Nearly 9 out of 10 people say they would like to work for themselves at some point. Even 70% of high school students now say they will be working for themselves. This is not some angry response to corporate America – but simply a return to the wholesome and healthy kind of businesses that formed the beginning of our great country.

Next Thursday evening, May 29th, I am inviting you to join me for a 70-minute teleseminar on generating your own income ("Cure for the Common Cubicle"). We’ll be looking at what is required in the first 90-days to jump-start your business. And I’ll be introducing you to the growing group of excited people who have already joined our 212ºConnection.

You’ll get a worksheet – a business plan -- to follow along and shape your ideas or get help in finding an idea that fits you. There is a $1.00 registration fee – just to make sure you’re serious about taking a spot on the teleseminar. We're set up for 2000 of you to listen and submit questions right on your computer, so you won’t even have the cost of a phone call (though we do have room for 200 on actual phone lines). You’ll get the access number and the opportunity to submit your question -- just click on the link below.

3. 48 Days Online Radio
Each week I create a new online radio podcast — that you can hear in iTunes or at the 48 Days Online Radio Show link below.

I started this podcast with a brief comment on procrastination. Last week's "Sluggard" article prompted a lot of people to respond that they are indeed procrastinators. My psychologist friend tells me procrastination or habitually being late are expressions of "hidden anger." Listen for more explanation.

Lots of interesting questions were submitted this week -- like these:

1. I have had 2 businesses of my own over the last 8 years; both did well but I sold them because they were not what I really wanted to do. I recently found your podcast and realize I need to open a business in something I’m passionate about. The only thing is the thing I’m most passionate about is sports and if I had to get more specific baseball. But I cannot think of any ideas.

2. I am a school teacher and have a love for photography. I would like to start a photography business during the summer going to places of work and offering my services to take pictures of employees in action for $50/hour. The hiring company would then own the pictures. What do you think?

3. Hi Dan--I became a fan of 48 Days and No More Monday's via Dave Ramsey. Can you tell us how your Eagles reading/study group formed and how your meetings are structured? I'd like to form a similar group in the Mobile, AL area. Thanks and God Bless!

4. I am starting a consulting business which will make me pseudo-competitors with a former boss and professional associate. It has been four years, but I know she has the potential to take this negatively. Her constant “put downs” of other professionals is one reason I left the company. Do you have any advice for this situation?

5. After 25 years at FedEx, I’m looking for a job. I love old cars, drag racing, restoring them Etc...I’m 49 and scared. Where do I start?

5. Humor -- Technical Talk
In a software design meeting, the geeks were using typical technical jargon to discuss a data exchange interface with a vendor. One co-worker said the programming they had ordered was delayed because the vendor was suffering from a "severe nonlinear waterfowl issue."

Curious, the team leader raised his eyebrows and asked, "What exactly is that?"

The programmer replied, "They don't have all their ducks in a row."
