Without thinking - What is God's most frequent command? If you're like most people, you probably thought of "Love the Lord your God," or "Love One Another." Or maybe one of the other Ten Commandments. None of those make it to the top of the list for the most common command from God.
You know what it is? "Do not be afraid."
That shows up over three hundred times in the Scripture. A quick Google search for "fear" shows up 304 Million sites, while "confidence" show up a little more than half as often at 180 Million. In hearing from hundreds of people each week who say they would like to develop some idea on their own, the two most frequently "perceived" obstacles are:
1. Lack of Money
2. Too much Fear
I recently recorded a 48-minute podcast on "No Money - No Problem." You can get that podcast free by simply scrolling down to the June 11th podcast here: No Money - No Problem.
This Thursday evening at 7:00 PM CDT I will be addressing the second issue -- What's Holding You Back?. The last time we did one of these $1 teleseminars we had over 3000 people register. When you open the information for What's Holding You Back? you will see a place where you can submit your question. They are already pouring in and confirm the common "fear" theme. Here are just a few:
Catherine -- Years ago I got an entrepreneurial opportunity off the ground only to get killed by the IRS because I am not a good bookkeeper. I have lived in fear of that experience ever since.
James -- What are some of the ways that we can overcome the fear that is associated with being self employed. (Am I smart enough, talented enough, will I make enough money to pay the bills etc)
Jen -- I am knowledgeable about the field that I want to branch out in, but I'm far from an expert. Sometimes I'm afraid when approaching people in the field that they won't take me seriously or dismiss me as a "wannabe".
Cindy -- I am afraid to spend my meager savings on getting a business started. How do I find something I can feel confident about?
Kevin -- How do I determine if the risk is worth taking? The greatest successes come from taking risks, but the greatest failures come from risk taking as well. How do I know this is the one to take?
Brenda -- How do I overcome the fear of stepping out of my comfort zone?
Jorge -- I am so scared of going off on my own. what if, what if, what if??? How do I get over that?
Lucy -- How can I let go of the fear of a steady paycheck with benefits?
Andy -- How do you overcome the fear of failure and the uncertainty of having your livelihood dependent only on yourself?
I'm inviting you to tell me "What's Holding You Back?" Then at 7:00 PM this Thursday I'll be addressing those concerns in a live teleseminar. I'm going to go through as many as possible in the 60-minute timeframe. I want to share how I, as a frightened little Mennonite farm kid, was able to get past the fear (and no money) to get traction on the ideas that allow Joanne and me to live the life we have today. And how you can do the same!

Each week I create a new online radio podcast — that you can hear in iTunes or at the 48 Days Online Radio Show link below.
Note Question #5 here -- the writer tried to "transition from ministry into something outside the local church." If you've been reading my material at all you'll know that this contrasting of either being in "ministry" or doing something "outside the chruch" sets me off big time. I believe we all have daily opportunities for "ministry" regardless of the kind of work we are doing. Listen to hear my rant.
1. I'm starting a business and have a friend with the right abilities to help. Though she would be integral to the function and marketing, the business couldn't exist without my license, degree, and experience. How can I set this up? What is a practical way to divide the fee if 50/50 isn't quite appropriate? Thank you
2. Other than Matthew 6:33, what does the word of God say about job hunting? I have been looking for over a month, have a great coach and still no success.
3. I want to create an internet based business because I want to work at home and create my own schedule and it has no age discrimination attached to it. Here's my idea... Made to order organic t shirt business (online only) I'm trying to find suppliers that will make the shirts as the orders come in. I worked in the fashion industry " one of the jobs that was on my "I want to try..." list." While there I observed women had a terrible time with t shirts fitting right.
4. I hate the current job I'm in. I'm 32 years old and I drive a forktruck at a factory here in town. I'm really burned out on my job and I'm not sure how much longer I can keep this up. I really enjoy drawing and I also am passionate about cars. Do you have any advice on where I should go from here?
5. I followed God's call in ministry for over 20 years. Two years ago I attempted to transition from ministry into something outside the local church. What direction does an ordained minister go if not into ministry, social services, or parachurch organizations? I want to start my own Christian apparel line, but do not know where to start.
6. When doing consulting, how do you decide how much to charge? I want to be fair to people, but I also don't want to price myself out of the market. Just doing simple math, my salary at my old job works out to $60 an hour. My consulting job is literally the same work I was doing at my company. Is $100 an hour fair?
